I also offer individual therapy from a family systems lens – this means we’ll spend a lot of time talking about your relationship with your family and how it impacts you. We’ll also focus on what you can do differently to create change.
I love working with individuals who are:
- Wanting to examine their history and how it’s impacted them
- Trying to understand their own relationship with their families of origin
- Wondering how to set healthy boundaries for themself while also protecting their relationship with others
- Ready to mourn and grieve what they needed and didn’t get in their childhood
- Willing to try different reactions and responses in their relationships to see if that changes things
Here’s something important for you to know:
What makes me different from some more individually-oriented therapists is that I won’t typically recommend you cut off from your family. That is an extreme response that, while sometimes necessary, I see as a last resort. I hold a relational frame when working with the individual, which means I’m thinking about how you’re impacted by your relationships – and I believe that improving these relationships positively impacts your mental health. I also hold a systemic frame, which means I’m thinking of how all people involved in the relationship are shaping the dynamic.
I will help you figure out how to engage differently in your family to break your relationship out of old patterns. Once you make a change, the whole family dynamic can begin to change.
